A bold red velvet cake with spicy cinnamon frosting to match Aries’ fiery and energetic personality.
Ingredients
For the Red Velvet Cake:
- 2 ½ cups (310g) all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups (300g) granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
- 1 cup (240ml) buttermilk
- 1 ½ cups (360ml) vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring
For the Spicy Cinnamon Frosting:
- 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups (480g) powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat!)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
Instructions
Make the Cake:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
- In another bowl, mix buttermilk, oil, eggs, vanilla, vinegar, and red food coloring.
- Gradually combine wet and dry ingredients, stirring until smooth.
- Divide the batter evenly between the cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Make the Frosting:
- Beat butter until fluffy. Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing well.
- Add cinnamon, cayenne pepper (if using), vanilla, and cream. Beat until smooth and spreadable.
Assemble:
- Spread a layer of frosting on one cake layer, then place the second layer on top.
- Cover the entire cake with frosting.
- For extra “firecracker” vibes, decorate with red and gold sprinkles or edible glitter!
